John Lewis: The Man on the Moon
Remember when Christmas used to be to only 12 days? It seems like a faint memory and now all we look forward to is the repetitive and hegemonic John Lewis Christmas ad every year.
Again, this year’s John Lewis advert was set to warm our nation’s heart. But is it really so sweet? Why would this creepy man confide in a little girl of all people to gain companionship?
John Lewis again have tried to maximise their advertisement views whilst exploiting values of popular charities such as Age UK. Some may screech ‘Oh wow, John Lewis is such a wonderful company; supporting Age UK’ however there is a reason why John Lewis have featured such a reputable charity. It all comes down to sales! John Lewis do not care about the sentimental values of Christmas. When it comes down to it all they care about is sales. Money, Money, Money!
Sorry to sound harsh, but is this advert really as innocent as it seems? For 1) it is very unscientifically incorrect, 2) it’s extremely creepy and weird and 3) it is exploiting charity in order to gain more sales.
Cute or Creepy? I think creepy. But don’t worry I'm sure next year’s ad will be back featuring a cuddly penguin toy. However we have gained millions of hilarious parodies from this awful ad.
